Random Mixology – Christmas Cocktails: Santa’s Sleigh

Posted in Mixology at 16:21 by Kathleen

I do not think that I am organized enough this year to do a full-on Week of Mixology – Christmas Edition. Instead, I will post on the drinks we try when we try them.

Our first new drink of Christmas 2014 is the Santa’s Sleigh Cocktail.

Santa’s Sleigh

  • White sugar crystals, preferably coarse
  • 2 cups store-bought eggnog, chilled
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup amaretto liqueur
  • 1teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • Dampens the rims of 4 martini glasses and then line the rims with sugar crystals.
  • Combine eggnog, brandy, amaretto, nutmeg, and ice cream in a blender; process until smooth.
  • Pour mixture into martini glasses and garnish each glass with a whole cinnamon stick.

However, I ended up making a variation both on purpose and by mistake. I did not want to use a cinnamon stick for each drink. So I opted to sparkle ground cinnamon on top of the drink. Then I misread “2 scoops vanilla ice cream” for “2 cups vanilla ice cream”, a lot more ice cream. It worked. The drink was a big hit with the parents.

  • White sugar crystals, preferably coarse
  • 2 cups store-bought eggnog, chilled
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup amaretto liqueur
  • 1teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • ground cinnamon to sprinkle on
  • Dampens the rims of 4 martini glasses and then line the rims with sugar crystals.
  • Combine eggnog, brandy, amaretto, nutmeg, and ice cream in a blender; process until smooth.
  • Pour mixture into martini glasses and shake some ground cinnamon on the drink, to taste.

The original version claims to serve 4. I have not try it, so I cannot really comment on that. All I can say is that Kathleen’s Variation easily serves 7, if not 8.
