WoM – Tropical Christmas Edition: Christmas Blue Hawaiian

Posted in Mixology at 17:10 by Kathleen

The Christmas Blue Hawaiian is on deck tonight. It is a variation on the Blue Hawaiian. I guess the peppermint schnapps is the “Christmas” element, reminiscent of candy cane.

Christmas Blue Hawaiian

  • 2 oz Coconut rum
  • 2 oz Blue Curaçao
  • 1 oz Peppermint schnapps
  • 1 oz Pineaple juice
  • 1 oz Sprite
  • Crushed candy canes
  • Simple syrup
  • Maraschino Cherry
  • Source: https://champagneandcoconuts.com/christmas-blue-hawaiian-cocktail/

Add simple syrup to a plate, set to the side. Add the crushed candy canes to a plate. Then roll the rim of the glasses in the simple syrup then into the candy cane. Set glasses aside.

Fill the cocktail shaker halfway full with ice. Combine first all the liquors and pineapple juice in a cocktail shaker. Shake until combined. Fill the glasses with ice. Pour the mixture over ice. Top with Sprite and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

That is a nice cocktail. Sweet, but within reason. The peppermint schnapps is a very nice touch. Note that using crème de menthe (white) would probably lead to a cocktail that is way too sweet. So try to find the schnapps if you can. If you cannot, I found instructions on how to make something similar at home at the bottom of this article: https://www.thespruceeats.com/peppermint-schnapps-recipes-760255

If you go to the cocktail’s source website, you will see a glass rimmed with crushed candy cane. I didn’t to it, I didn’t want to get stuck with candy canes. Beside, wouldn’t it be annoying drinking from a glass rimmed with crushed candy cane?
