EoM – That’s for Evening of Mixology

Posted in Mixology at 9:01 by Kathleen

Christmas Eve, an impromptu evening of mixology. I mixed three cocktails for me and my folks.

Red Lion

  • 1 1/4 oz gin
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 lemon juice
  • Pour the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass.

That’s a nice one. It’s a cocktail that feels grown up without being too hardcore. There is just a touch of sweetness to counterbalance the sour of the lemon juice. Overall a well balanced drink. By the way, the color of the cocktail is yellow; I have no clue why it is named “Red” Lion.

Parisian

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz Creme de Cassis
  • 1 lemon zest
  • Pour the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Stir and strain into a martini glass. Press the lemon zest with your fingers to extract the essence and drop in the glass.

This one is on the sweet side. I think that I’m not yet a big fan of Creme de Cassis. I did you Creme de Cassis de Dijon. Most likely, anyone who really likes Creme de Cassis would like this drink too. Regarding the lemon zest, I have doubts as to my ability to “extract the essence”. Oh well!

Bacardi Cocktail

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz grenadine
  • 1 lime zest
  • Pour the rum, lime juice and grenadine into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Press the lime zest to extract the essence and drop into the glass.

Pleasantly sour. The grenadine does not make it a sweet drink as I originally expected. The lime led the way. The color is a pinkish red.

So that was our Evening of Mixology on Christmas Eve 2011. It’s a nice format for those evenings with company and plenty of time. I foresee the EoM happening again.
