WoM – Christmas Edition: Christmas Jones

Posted in Mixology at 11:09 by Kathleen

Tuesday. Today, we take the blender out. Not too sure why this is considered a Christmas drink with the summer strawberries and the tropical pineapple juice, but who cares, it sounds tasty. I think the only relation to Christmas is the name, which refers to James Bond character.

The Christmas Jones is our Tuesday cocktail.

  • 4 fresh strawberries
  • 1 part vodka
  • 2 tsp superfine sugar
  • 5 oz pineapple juice
  • 7-Up
  • In a blender, whiz the vodka, strawberries, sugar and pineapple juice together. Pour the mix equally into two highball glasses. Top with 7-Up. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

I hate when they use “part” for quantity. What the heck does that mean?! Since this recipe is supposed to make two drinks, surely “1 part” does not mean “1 oz”. So what is it? I googled around and someone suggested 1 1/2 oz. That would make a pretty weak drink, 3/4 oz in each glass. So decided to go for 1 part equals 2 oz, it’s the Holidays after all.

Enough complaining, now with the tasting. First, the cocktail looks really cute, pink, frothy, with a sprig of mint on top for decoration. The cocktail is fruity, as expected, maybe a touch too sweet. I did use regular sugar instead of superfine sugar, in case that matters. Christmassy enough as it turns out.
