WoM – Tropical Christmas Edition: Mary Pickford Cocktail

Posted in Mixology at 18:13 by Kathleen

Nothing in the name says “Christmas” or “Tropical” but the ingredients and look qualifies it as a cocktail for New Year Eve’s in the tropics. The Mary Pickford is a Cuban Prohibition-era classic. There are many variations when it comes to the relative quantities of the four ingredients. I picked one, let’s try it.

Mary Pickford Cocktail

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 ½ oz pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon Maraschino liqueur
  • 2 teaspoons grenadine
  • Garnish: Luxardo cherry

Place the rum, pineapple juice, Maraschino liqueur, and grenadine in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 handfuls of ice and shake until cold. Strain the drink into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a Luxardo cherry, if desired.

Ah! Yes. That’s a nice little cocktail. Perfect cocktail to say farewell to 2021. It is a on the sweet side, but it is quite festive. Also, it is a great excuse to use my Maraschino liqueur. (That bottle is going to last me a lifetime at the current rate of consumption.)

I dropped a normal Maraschino cherry in the glass. That’s what I had.
